In 2025, the route ran from Lemon Street west of Florida Avenue through downtown by Munn Park and Lake Mirror, and back along Orange Street, LkldNow reported. The 2025 parade drew more than 50,000 people and 123 floats, marching bands and groups, with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the end. Entry applications for 2026 closed Oct. 2.

Chairs

The city’s rule is firm: no chairs on the route until the day of the parade, Thursday, Dec. 3. Chairs, tape, blankets and anything else used to save a spot in the public right of way before then will be removed. On parade day, do not block sidewalks, entrances or ADA ramps, or put chairs in wheelchair-accessible areas. The city is not responsible for lost or stolen chairs.

Parking and road closures

  • Closures begin as early as 3:30 p.m., and every street on the route is closed by 6 p.m. Officers direct traffic along the route.
  • To cross town without the parade, the city suggests Bartow Highway (U.S. 98) and Harden Boulevard.
  • Park in public lots, garages and open streets off the route; the city’s downtown parking map shows them.
  • You cannot cross the route during the parade, so park on the side you plan to leave from. LkldNow’s tips from experienced parade-goers: avoid downtown garages and park several blocks away to beat the traffic afterward.
  • The parade typically lasts 90 minutes to two hours from when the first floats reach you.

Accessibility: parking for vehicles with a disabled permit and a first-come, first-served wheelchair-accessible viewing area are at 808 E. Rose St. Accessible restrooms are at the corner of Lake Mirror Drive and Lake Avenue.

Tree lighting and the floating tree

Lakeland’s best-known Christmas tree floats. Each holiday season a lighted tree sits in the middle of Lake Morton, a tradition Boy Scout Troop 4 began around 1930 with a 30-foot pine on a raft. The first attempt to light it, in 1932, ended with hand-painted bulbs exploding and the tree catching fire, LkldNow’s history recounts. Today the city’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains a garland tree that floats on the lake. The city had not announced a 2026 downtown tree-lighting ceremony as of Oct. 9; we will add it here when it does.

More holiday events downtown

  • First Friday: Holiday Spectacular, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, on Kentucky Avenue, from the LDDA.
  • Holiday Night Market, 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, downtown, on the LDDA calendar.

What this means for you

  • Mark Thursday, Dec. 3: fireworks at 7 p.m.
  • Chairs go out that day, not before.
  • Driving through downtown after 3:30 p.m.? Use U.S. 98 or Harden Boulevard.
