Interstate 4 and the main roads

FDOT’s Southwest Connect I-4 corridor study lists the Lakeland-area interchanges in order from west to east. From the Hillsborough County line, they are:

  1. County Line Road
  2. State Road 570, the Polk Parkway (west end)
  3. State Road 546, West Memorial Boulevard
  4. State Road 539, Kathleen Road (Exit 31)
  5. U.S. 98 (Exit 32)
  6. North Socrum Loop Road and State Road 33, Lakeland Hills Boulevard
  7. State Road 33 toward Polk City
  8. State Road 570, the Polk Parkway (east end), next to Florida Polytechnic University

The Polk Parkway (State Road 570) links its two I-4 interchanges, so it appears twice on the list.

FDOT says I-4 is a designated state hurricane evacuation route. The study covers 27.6 miles of I-4 in Polk County and is due to finish its current phase in early 2027.

Work zones: FDOT is replacing the CSX railroad bridge over I-4, and the westbound I-4 on-ramp at Kathleen Road has had daytime and overnight closures this week, its project page says. The detour runs north on Kathleen Road, east on Griffin Road and north on U.S. 98 to the Exit 32 on-ramp. Our road construction and closures page is updated weekly.

Citrus Connection is run by the Lakeland Area Mass Transit District and serves Lakeland, Winter Haven, Bartow and the rest of Polk County. Its routes run six days a week, the agency says.
