- Thanksgiving Day Run. On Thanksgiving morning 2025, Fleet Feet Lakeland led a free fun run and walk from the Lake Hollingsworth boat ramp, one loop of the lake at 2.8 miles, from 8 to 9 a.m., its race page shows. All paces were welcome. The race page still showed the 2025 date as of Oct. 31.
- White Elephant 5K/10K, 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, around Lake Hollingsworth, a flat course with a gift-swap theme. Check-in and race-day registration open at 8 a.m.; sign up by Nov. 19 to get a shirt in your size, the race page says.
Community meals and giving
VISTE (Volunteers in Service to the Elderly) runs a Thanksgiving meal delivery for local seniors that is now in its 30th year:
- Operation Cranberry: drop off 14-ounce cans of jellied cranberry sauce at VISTE by Friday, Nov. 13.
- Green Bean Snap, 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive. Children and families snap fresh green beans for the meals. No registration; first come, first served.
- Meal Delivery Day, Wednesday, Nov. 25. Volunteer drivers pick up meals and routes in a drive-through line at the RP Funding Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and deliver about 2,000 meals to seniors. Drivers must apply in advance through VISTE’s volunteer form, and spots fill quickly.
If your church or nonprofit is serving a free community Thanksgiving meal in Lakeland, send the details through our contact page and we will list it here.
The weekend after
- Downtown lights. Downtown Lakeland’s holiday lights traditionally come on after sunset on Thanksgiving, with Santa’s sleigh atop the Lakeland Electric building and toy soldiers in Munn Park, Visit Central Florida notes. In 2025 the downtown authority added a tree lighting in Munn Park at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving night; it had not announced a 2026 lighting as of Oct. 31. Its First Friday page says a new 40-foot Christmas tree will stand in Munn Park for the Holiday Spectacular on Friday, Dec. 4.
- Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28: the Holiday Craft Bazaar fills Munn Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with more than 45 local makers and pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., alongside the Farmers Curb Market.
- Black Friday, Nov. 27: Lakeland Square Mall is closed Thanksgiving Day and opens 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, its holiday hours page says. See our Black Friday and holiday shopping page.
- Christmas parade: the Lakeland Christmas Parade follows on Thursday, Dec. 3. See the parade page.
