Attendance zone and feeder schools
Polk County assigns elementary schools by home address. We ran a random sample of 1,817 current address points from the City of Lakeland’s address layer through the district’s Address Zoning tool for 2026-27. About 7% were zoned for Southwest Elementary.
Feeder schools. The district does not publish a feeder list; each grade is zoned by address. Among the sampled city addresses zoned for Southwest Elementary, the district’s tool assigns middle school to Southwest Middle (64%), Sleepy Hill Middle (31%) and Lakeland Highlands Middle (5%). For high school, the same addresses are zoned for Lakeland High (64%), George Jenkins High (24%), Tenoroc High (9%) and Kathleen High (3%).
Rezoning. The elementary zone did not change for 2026-27 in our sample. The School Board’s Jan. 27, 2026, vote set new high school boundaries, according to the district’s announcement, and it moved many addresses in this zone: in our sample, about two-thirds switched high schools, most of them to Lakeland High from Kathleen or George Jenkins.
